  • Your Guide to Post-Operative Dental Implant Care

At Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Lowcountry, Dr. Dillard is committed to helping patients understand each possible treatment option so they can feel confident in their decision and end results.

Dental implants are natural-looking prosthetic teeth that are attached to your jaw, providing a firm and stable foundation. They’re custom-made to match your smile, and they promote good oral health by stimulating healthy jawbone growth. Dr. Dillard will discuss treatment options with you during your free consultation.

Single Tooth Restoration

If you decide to restore your missing tooth with a dental implant, Dr. Dillard will place your implant fixture directly into your jaw to ensure stability. He’ll also use osseointegration to stimulate healthy jawbone growth.

After your jaw heals around the implant fixture, you’ll return to our office so Dr. Dillard can complete the process by placing your porcelain crown. This restoration will provide you with a complete, beautiful new smile that will boost your self-confidence.

Thanks to the increased chewing power you get with dental implants, you’ll be able to consume all of your favorite foods again.

Multiple Tooth Restoration

If you’re missing multiple teeth that are adjacent to each other, then we can restore your smile by providing you with an implant-supported bridge. He does this by placing an implant on each side of the crown in the middle.

This type of bridge is a stronger alternative to a traditional bridge because using dental implants to support a bridge of crowns provides better support and stimulation. Implant-supported bridges can last a lifetime, unlike regular dental bridges.

All-On-4

Do you need an entire arch of missing teeth restored? If so, Dr. Dillard will use four to six implant fixtures to support your entire arch. After this is done, you’ll receive a temporary prosthetic to be worn while the implants heal. After the implant posts have properly integrated with the jawbone, you’ll return to have your final restoration attached.

To provide our patients with reliable, lasting results, Dr. Dillard trusts the Nobel Biocare All-on-4 dental implant system to transform smiles.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?

Ideal candidates for a full arch replacement with All-on-4 are patients missing an entire arch of teeth, both arches, or are currently wearing dentures and seeking a more permanent solution. All-on-4 combines the security of dental implants with the convenience of a single prosthetic to bring you this remarkable treatment.

With All-on-4, Dr. Dillard uses four strategically-placed implants to support a single prosthetic device that replaces all the teeth in an arch. This innovative approach eliminates the need for bone grafting. All-on-4 enhances the health of your smile by stimulating healthy bone growth.

Full-Arch Restoration With TeethXpress

Recent advancements in implant dentistry make it easier than ever to effectively restore one or both arches with an attractive set of prosthetic teeth. We proudly feature TeethXpress, an innovative full-arch replacement system that only requires 4 to 6 implants.

With TeethXpress, there’s never a need for bone grafting thanks to our strategic implant placement. What’s more, with TeethXpress we can perform the whole procedure in just one day. That way, you’ll leave our office with an attractive, fully functional temporary prosthetic.

As soon as you’ve completely adjusted to your dental implants, you’ll return to our office so Dr. Dillard can place your permanent prosthetic.

Implant-Supported Dentures

If you like the way your dentures look but you want more comfort and a better hold, we also feature implant-supported dentures. With this option, Dr. Dillard uses implants to secure your existing denture, eliminating the pain that comes from having your dentures resting on the gumline.

With implant-supported dentures, you’ll also experience greatly enhanced chewing power and the comfort of knowing that you’ll never need to use denture adhesive again.

Hybrid Dentures

Hybrid dentures are another full arch replacement that are permanently fixed into the jawbone. However, rather than restricting treatment to just four implants, this solution can use anywhere from six to eight implants to support the prosthetic.

Often, this option is recommended when patients have experienced significant bone loss and require additional stimulation. Many patients upgrade from standard dentures to hybrid dentures due to the increased stability of the implant-supported teeth.

Overdentures

If you’re looking for an option that will ensure stability but is removable, overdentures may be a great option for you. Like traditional dentures, overdentures are removable, allowing patients to take them out for daily cleaning and oral hygiene.

However, the use of dental implants adds significant stability to an individual’s bite, allowing them to enjoy an improved quality of life. Overdentures are ideal for individuals who currently wear dentures and are ready to enjoy the benefits and stability of implants.
